Community Announcements
 
  • Martin Rydlo, Director Marketing and Business Development announced that Collingwood was awarded a Bronze Bicycle Friendly Community Award by Share the Road Coalition and noted that we are among 27 other communities in Ontario who have received an award from Share the Road.
The award highlights Collingwood’s encouragement of healthy active living including cycling routes throughout the town and the report card provides us with some areas that we can improve upon.
 
Public Meeting
Proposed Zoning By-law Amendment
 
The proposed Zoning By-law Amendment pertains to residential lands throughout the Town of Collingwood.
Mr. Mark Bryan, Community Planner explained the purposeof the proposed Zoning By-law Amendment is to modify and add provisions to the Town’s Zoning By-law, as amended, to implement secondary suite policies in accordance with the Town’s Official Plan, the Simcoe County Official Plan and various Provincial Planning Policy documents. The effect of the proposed Zoning By-law Amendment is to permit secondary suites (accessory apartments), within semi-detached and townhouse dwelling units and to allow secondary suites in detached accessory buildings in association with single detached dwelling units where appropriate.
Some benefits would include providing additional affordable housing units and more flexible housing options for aging population. 
 
Public can submit any comments or concerns regarding the proposed policies to the planning department through clerk@collingwood.ca

A.5 B. Morgan re: Request to amend zoning by-law regarding motorhomes in residential areas
Council passed a motion requesting a staff report to consider changes to the zoning by-law to permit motorhomes in residential areas.
 
Standing Committee Report
Council received the Corporate & Community Services Standing Committee report from the meeting held May 1, 2017.
Martin Rydlo, Director Marketing & Business Development provided Council with an update on the Economic Development Action Plan.

The following Staff Reports were approved:

Motions
Council passed a resolution to authorize the Royal Canadian Air Force flyby to take place as low as 500 feet over the Town of Collingwood on July 15th, 2017 in support of the Wasaga Beach Rally Veterans Ride.
 
Council agreed to waive the notice of motion requirement and approved the following resolution:
 
WHEREAS  Council of the Town of Collingwood is very disappointed that the Ministry of Health and Long Term has not allocated funds in 2017 for the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital redevelopment, particularly as Collingwood and our regional partners have unanimously committed our support for the project;  
 
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT Council herein seeks clarification from the Minister of Health and Long Term Care regarding the recent funding announcement;
 
AND FURTHER petition the Ministry to make the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital redevelopment a priority in the 2018 Budget Consideration.
