Media Release: Live & Original Music Series announces Judging Panel

Collingwood, ON [1 May 2017] –The Collingwood Live & Original (L&O) Music Series is pleased to announce the Judging Panel for the Live & Original Music Series. The Panel will have the unenviable task of choosing winners from amongst the 10 Finalists set to compete on May 6th and 7th at the Townhall Theatre inside the Eddie Bush Memorial Arena.

Jeff Woods has a voice that has been heard on radio and television for decades. A music historian and author, Jeff has recently published “Radio, Records & Rockstars” to public and critical acclaim. His career continues to be about communication and he is known for sounding as though he's speaking just to you, despite the fact that his reach has extended to a weekly audience exceeding one million listeners. Jeff can be heard every Sunday on Toronto’s Q107 as the host of “Records and Rockstars”.
 
Lisa O’Hara is recognizable as the on-air voice of 95.1The PeakFM during the day. Lisa grew up in Orillia, Bracebridge and Barrie before taking Broadcasting at Niagara College.  After graduating in 2000 she started her career downtown Toronto, working in TV Production. In 2008 Lisa and her hubby welcomed their first baby and she was thrilled to move back north, closer to friends and family.
 
Kris Bawden wakes you up in the morning on radio station BIG101.1. An Ottawa native, Big Kris now works out of Barrie. With a decade of experience in the radio industry, his roles have ranged from music director to on-air radio host. Big Kris is known for leading some of the most infamous radio stunts including, The Turd King, The Human Toboggan, and the Turkey Hunter.
 
Mike Charette is our reigning 2016 Live & Original Champion. After winning the hearts of the audience and judges in last year’s event; as well as the $3000 first prize, Mike has re-entered the studio to work on a new album of original songs. His music carries charisma and spirit with flavours of Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Michael McDonald and some Billy Joel mixed in. Mike’s home is in Sudbury, but he has developed a fondness for Collingwood and area and is looking forward to returning for L&O.
 
In addition to the Judging Panel, two workshops designed to promote and develop singer/songwriters will be facilitated by an exceptional lineup of musicians.
 
“Hitting the Studio”  (Saturday, May 6th @ 12 noon) This session will give Josh Maitland, of Red Room Recordings, an opportunity to share his experience in bringing raw talent through the process of recording master tracks and song collections. Josh has international and cross-genre experience in eliciting the best that an artist has to offer. Mike Charette will also join Josh to talk about the process from the artist’s side of the glass.
 
“Songcraft”(Sunday, May 7th @ 12 noon) Blair Packham is steeped in musical experience. As a Canadian singer/songwriter he was the lead vocalist and guitar player for The Jitters in the 1980’s. Performing solo since 2000, he has also written for numerous film and television programs. He’s worked with such notable talents as Andy Kim, Ron Sexsmith, and Rik Emmett. On behalf of the Songwriters Association of Canada, he has been the host of Bluebird North in Toronto bringing together talented singer/songwriters to share their inspiration and music.
 
Blair will be joined by two-time L&O Finalist, Bernadette Connors, of Newmarket. Bernadette has grown up playing music with her family. Her mom, dad and three older brothers have really shaped her musical insight and abilities, and from there she's had many opportunities to work with countless talented individuals who continue to influence and inspire her. With her exceptional voice and determined attitude, Bernadette has most recently picked up the flag of music legend Carole King and is performing a collection of Carole’s works whenever she and her band get the chance.
 
“Songcraft” will explore the inspiration, development process, joy, logjams, and frustrations of writing music and bringing the seed of a thought to something that everyone should hear.
