Media Release: Collingwood wins FEO awards: Municipality of the Year and Top 100

Collingwood, ON [5 March 2017] – Announced at the Festivals & Events Ontario (FEO) Conference in Sault Ste. Marie March 3rd, the Town of Collingwood is the recipient of two awards: Top 100 Festivals & Events and Municipality of the Year.
Due to the location and timing of the FEO conference Town representatives could not attend the ceremony in person, however a letter from the Mayor’s Office was sent in lieu to receive the awards.
The Municipality of the Year award recognizes the best in municipal leadership and festival and event partnerships in the Province of Ontario. There are 3 categories of the Municipality of the Year award based on population, the Town of Collingwood winning the category amongmunicipalities with a population under 50,000.
“We are very proud of all our Town events and festivals which attract both visitors and residents to participate and celebrate everything from Family Day (February Family Jam), to Art on the Street, Elvis, Sidelaunch Days and more. The Collingwood Elvis Festival is entering its twenty-third year with unanimous support from Town Council to continue to grow the event,” said Mayor Sandra Cooper. “The Town of Collingwood values the role that festivals and events play in our community from the standpoint of economic impact, and providing the lifestyle in Collingwood that our residents have come to expect.”
Collingwood has been included among the Top 50/100 Festivals in Ontario, through FEO, since 2001. Over the years we have won: Best Poster, Best Printed Program, Best Virtual Campaign (Website), Sponsor of the Year (Sirius Satellite Radio), Volunteer of the Year, Youth Volunteer of the Year, Best Overall Promotional Campaign and Municipality of the Year at the Festival & Events Ontario Achievement Awards.

FEO’s letter of congratulations thanked the Town of Collingwood for its contribution of countless hours of time given to the community and for the dedication to providing quality experiences and quality of life to local residents and visitors alike.
The Collingwood Elvis Festival was also recognized as one of FEO’s Top 100 Festivals, which, according to FEO, is “a select group which represent some of the most well-known and respected celebrations in the province; celebrations which draw both an international and domestic audience.”
