The Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority (NVCA) is looking for volunteers to help plant and mulch thousands of young native trees across the Nottawasaga Valley watershed.
Volunteers are needed for tree planting events throughout May, including plants in Everett and Collingwood on May 7, Innisfil on May 8, Angus and Everett on May 14, and Bradford West Gwillimbury on May 28. Planting events are also scheduled for May 16, 26 and 28 in the Minesing Wetlands.
Community groups, families and individuals are welcome, as are high school students in need of community hours. Orientation will be provided on planting days.
Volunteers should come prepared for all weather (except lightning storms) with sturdy shoes, a hat, sunscreen, work gloves and a bottle of water, and a shovel if possible.
NVCA and partners from the Nature Conservancy of Canada, the Nottawasaga Watershed Improvement Program and the South Simcoe Streams Network are coordinating this year’s spring plants. The tree plants are part a larger program to create stream habitat and improve water quality in the watershed.
